AVSL 2022/23 Round 4 Wrap

Glenhuntly Athletic Club – Latest News

Victoria Haritos after setting a new W60+ Javelin club record

Saturday 12th November 2022

Fair weather prevailed, and we had another super AVSL meet back at our home ground - Duncan Mackinnon Athletic Track - for the second time this season. As the host club, our team of volunteers and club helpers did a magnificent job of setting up the track in the morning, including managing the pack-up at the end of the day, not to mention manning the canteen. This was no mean feat, and we extend our sincere gratitude to those who put their hands up to chip in and help out at this round.

Outstanding achievements of the day

Congratulations to the following record breakers:

  • Victoria Haritos created a new F60-64 Javelin (500 g) record of 16.38 m with a very stylish throw of 16.38 m (which was actually 1.61 m further than the record she currently holds with the 400 g javelin)!

  • Allegra Orso broker her own FU15 Triple Jump record with a super leap of 11.67 m, which represented a massive increase of 34 cm on her previous record.

Our standing on the Premier Division Ladder

With two teams (Diamond Valley and Eaglehawk) using their Powerplay in Round 4, Glehuntly Athletic Club is now sitting in 5th place on the ladder after Round 4. The overall standings are still to be resolved, pending Geelong and Bendigo regions to complete their make-up rounds following their recent weather/inundation issues.

Club helpers

Each club must supply a minimum number of club helpers at each round of AVSL. Glenhuntly AC relies on parents, partners, friends and our competing athletes to fill the B Zone Club Duty Roster each week. Our AVSL competitions couldn’t happen without the fabulous efforts of our club helpers. A big thank you to the following people who were our club helpers on Saturday - your efforts helped to showcase our state-of-the-art athletic track venue to the athletics community.

  • Venue set-up: Max Binnington, Michele Forbes, Robyn Fletcher, Jamie Rossjohn, Alex Newman, Andrew Marriner, Kurt Golonka

  • Hurdles: Larissa Honner, Henry Dwyer, Max Binnington

  • Canteen: Christina Goodman, Ann Wright, Michael Ryan, Julie, Jo Whittle

  • Pack-up: Toni Matters, Andrew Crawley, Alex Newman, Madeleine Edwards, Drew Cox, Peter Rushen, Nathan Golonka, Kurt Golonka

Our Club President, Mick Ryan, and Club Committee member, Jo Whittle, on canteen duty

Special mention, too, of our club's AV Officials who tirelessly support AV every week with smooth running of the AVSL meets, including Round 4 at Duncan Mackinnon - Margaret Dunbar, Pam Noden, Maureen Austin and Margie Luxford.
